Plans for the Redesign of the Internet

The National Science Foundation is initiating a research grant program aimed at creating a new internet architecture. The program is part of the "Global Environment for Networking Investigations" (GENIE), which will provide a place to explore new architectures. Functionality that will be inherent in the updated internet architecture include security measures, support for wireless devices, and sensors throughout the system, e.g., for traffic.
